French Bulldog Growth Chart and Weight Tracker

Enter your French Bulldog puppy's age and current weight to see how they compare to typical growth ranges and get an estimated adult weight. All figures are typical ranges only; speak to your vet if your puppy is consistently outside these bands.

This tool is for general guidance only. It does not replace veterinary assessment.

How to use this tool

Enter your puppy's age and their most recent weight. Use scales, not a rough estimate; even a 200g difference matters at young ages. Weigh your puppy on the same scales each time for consistency. If you do not have pet scales, many vets and vet nurses will weigh a puppy at no charge.

The tool compares your puppy's weight against the typical range for French Bulldogs of the same age, and gives an estimated adult weight range. This estimate assumes your puppy will follow a normal growth trajectory; illness, dietary changes or significant under or overfeeding in the puppy phase can alter this.

Typical French Bulldog growth stages

French Bulldogs are classed as a small to medium breed and follow a growth pattern typical of this group. Most growth happens in the first six months; by 24 weeks, most Frenchies are at roughly 55 to 65 percent of their adult weight.

Typical French Bulldog weight ranges by age
AgeTypical rangeNotes
8 weeks1.3–2.5 kgTypical age for going to new home
12 weeks2.3–4.0 kgSecond vaccination usually this age
16 weeks3.5–5.5 kgPuppy classes starting point
20 weeks4.7–7.2 kgGrowth rate begins to slow
24 weeks5.8–8.6 kgOver half of adult weight reached
32 weeks6.8–10.2 kgApproaching adult frame
40 weeks7.4–11.2 kgNear adult weight for most dogs
12 months7.9–12.5 kgSwitch to adult food around this age
18 months8.0–14.0 kgFully mature

Males tend to sit toward the upper end of these ranges; females toward the lower end. Puppies from health-tested, standard-type lines will often sit in the middle. Puppies from very large-framed parents may exceed the upper end; this is not automatically a problem provided the weight gain is muscle and frame, not fat.

What affects adult size?

The adult weight of a French Bulldog is largely genetic. A puppy from parents who both weigh 14 kg is unlikely to mature at 9 kg, regardless of feeding. Diet affects whether a puppy reaches their genetic potential, not their ceiling. Overfeeding a puppy produces a fat puppy, not a larger adult.

Neutering has a modest effect on adult body composition in some dogs, but does not significantly alter height or skeletal frame.

For portion sizing guidance at each life stage, see the how much to feed a French Bulldog guide. For what to feed in the first year, the best puppy food guide covers what a Frenchie puppy needs nutritionally. The French Bulldog puppies guide covers the full first-year timeline.

When to speak to your vet about weight

The typical ranges here are broad by design, because French Bulldogs vary considerably. Speak to your vet if:

  • Your puppy's weight has been consistently below the lower range for more than four weeks
  • Your puppy has lost weight without a change in feeding
  • Your puppy has gained weight very rapidly (more than 15 percent of body weight in a week)
  • You are unsure whether your puppy's growth is normal at any stage

Weight alone is not a complete picture of health. A puppy at the lower end of the range but with excellent coat condition, good energy and consistent stool quality is not a concern. Context always matters.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a French Bulldog puppy weigh at 8 weeks?
A typical French Bulldog puppy at 8 weeks weighs between 1.3 and 2.5 kg. Puppies at the lower end are not necessarily unhealthy, but a weight below 1.0 kg at 8 weeks warrants a veterinary check. Puppies significantly above 2.5 kg at 8 weeks may be from a larger-framed line or may have been overfed.
When is a French Bulldog fully grown?
French Bulldogs are structurally mature at around 12 to 14 months, but may continue to fill out and develop muscle until 18 months. Most Frenchies reach their adult weight between 12 and 16 months. Switching to adult food at 10 to 12 months is appropriate for most dogs.
My French Bulldog puppy is underweight for their age. What should I do?
A puppy consistently below the typical weight range for their age should be assessed by a vet. Causes can include insufficient feeding, poor food quality, intestinal parasites, illness, or being naturally small-framed. Do not increase food dramatically without veterinary guidance, as growth is a complex process and overfeeding can cause its own problems.
My French Bulldog puppy is heavier than the typical range. Is this a problem?
Some puppies naturally sit above the middle of the range, particularly males from large-framed lines. However, a puppy that is consistently and significantly above range may be overfed. Check that you are following the feeding guide for your specific food and that treats are counted toward daily calories. Your vet can confirm whether the weight is appropriate.
Can I use this tool for a rescue French Bulldog of unknown age?
If you do not know your dog's age, a vet can estimate it from dental development and physical signs. Once you have an approximate age, this tool can give you a rough comparison, but its accuracy is better for puppies under 12 months with a known date of birth.
